Iron Gym - How to safely use the Iron Gym

by Elie Wyre

Once you have assembled the Iron Gym, there are a few things to consider related to safety before you start working out. First thing first, make sure you have enough room at the top of the door frame to safely install the Iron Gym pull up bar securely. It is suggested you have at least a quarter of an inch worth of space at the top of the door frame to securely fit the iron gym pull up system. While the minimum suggested is a quarter inch, a half inch worth of room is your best bet to ensure the best results. If you try to install the iron gym without the appropriate amount of space, chances are on your first pull up, you will wind up on your rear end with a sour look on your face. Next, assure that the black bar at the top of the unit is snug against the wall, above the door frame. You do not want any play between this black bar and the top of the door frame, you will want a tight fit. If the bar is loose, or the Iron Gym is able to move freely in any direction, take the unit down, and try installing the iron gym again. The reason you want to put an emphasis on a tight fit is that a lot of people ""bounce"" when they reach the top of their pull ups. If the system is loose, chances are after a few successful pull-ups the unit will detach from the wall. Again, causing you to wind up with a sore bottom. Last, but definitely not least, work out sensibly. Having a home based work out system can be both beneficial and hazardous at the same time. A lot of people will hit the iron so hardcore, they burn themselves out. Remember, it is a smart idea to alternate between working out different sections of the body. You do not want to work your arms and upper body extensively without taking breaks or working another body section. Doing so could lead to muscle fatigue, muscle soreness, strained muscles, tearing of ligaments, soft tissue damage amongst others. Also remember to drink plenty of fluids when you are working out on the iron gym pull up system. This will also help prevent muscle cramps as well as fatigue. Why I Love the Iron Gym Pull Up Bar

by Ryan S. Ferguson

I was skeptical when I first saw the tv ads featuring the iron gym pull up bar, but after actually purchasing the iron gym all of my doubts have vanished.
There are a number of reasons why the Iron Gym is a great piece of workout equipment, but the main reason we buy products such as this are the results. I have had the Iron Gym for about two months now and I have seen a huge difference in my arms and upper back, not to mention my abdominal muscles. Just a few minutes a day in each specific exercise can lead to great results.

Secondly, the versatility of the Iron Gym sets it apart from other ordinary pull up bars. You can do pull up exercises with a number of different grips to focus on certain muscle groups. The different grip positions include chinup position, ordinary grip pull up position, outer grip pull up position, and inside grip pull up position. The Iron Gym also offers ab straps for knee lifts, which are a great way to strengthen your abdominal muscles. Take the Iron Gym to the ground for push ups and tricep lifts. I have to be honest and say that I don't really find the tricep lifts very effective with the Iron Gym, but the pushup position allows your chest to descend below what would ordinarily be the floor level to maximize lift and muscle strengthening.

The Iron Gym's portability is another huge detail that sets this equipment apart from the rest. It takes literally a second to set up the Iron Gym in your doorway and a second to take it down. I just moved into a new apartment and it was no problem moving my home gym. Can you say that about a lot of the other home gyms out there?

The biggest problem with the home gym is ordering the product. The best way to get your hands on one is to head to a store near you that sells "As Seen on TV" products such as CVS or Bed Bath and Beyond, or you could go the easier route and just order one, along with other Iron Gym products at Amazon.com by clicking here Iron Gym Total Upper Body Workout Bar
Ordering through Amazon will be faster and cheaper than ordering from the tv ad, as well as more convenient than going to the store, which might not even carry them. If you do end up buying one in a nearby store you are still going to have to send away for the ab straps which will take at least a month to arrive.

Product Review - The Yin to the Iron Gym's Yang

By Franklin Balentine

The Iron Gym pull-up bar gives you access to arguably the best bodyweight resistance exercise ever and for that simple fact, the Iron Gym is worth every penny. It works great in most doorways and installs without having to drill into your walls. You do kind of feel like you are going to bang your head onto the door frame with each pull-up on the Iron Gym, but that is a small sacrifice to be able to perform this tremendous exercise from home. The convenience factor cannot be overstated. The more convenient an exercise is the more likely you are to do it and the more success you will have.
As for the other features of the Iron Gym, the knee raise straps are good as long as you don't use them for too long which may cut off circulation in your arms while you are hanging there. Besides, you can do knee raises while you are doing pull ups. The push-up bar feature is good for those whose wrists are strained by normal push-ups but the dip bar is a joke. The range of motion is a completely inadequate distance of about 5 inches. Furthermore, if you are going to do pull-ups where the resistance is equal to your entire bodyweight you should balance that with a press exercise that also employs your entire bodyweight. So what exercise is the Yin to the Iron Gym's Yang? The exercise that most perfectly balances the resistance of the pull-up is the handstand push-up. Imagine using your arms to pull yourself up to an overhead bar then doing the exact opposite. From a handstand you then press your entire bodyweight up over your head. Or would that be pressing up under your head? Now I'm confused. The point is these two exercises balance each other perfectly. The only problem is that if you have ever tried handstand push-ups you know that it is not exactly easy to get into that position. It helps if you use a wall for balance, but my efforts have lead to some damaged walls and embarrassing falls. Secondly, the handstand push-up does not work because your head gets in the way of full range of motion. There must be a better way. There is only one other exercise that requires you to press your entire bodyweight and that exercise is the chest or tricep dip. The dip is similar to a push-up but instead of pressing only a portion of your weight up against the floor you press your entire bodyweight up against the grips of the dip stand which are usually about waist high or more. This is a great exercise for strengthening the chest, triceps and shoulders. The dip exercise is also a useful addition to the Iron Gym because these muscles are generally the muscle used to counterbalance those engage during a pull-up. The problem with the dip exercise is that most of the dip machines on the market today are either too big or too expense to be considered for home use. However there is one dip machine that is designed specifically for home use and sells for under $100. The Ultimate Body Press Dip Machine is the only reasonably affordable dip machine that is compact enough to use in your home and just like the Iron Gym you will not have to damage you walls to install it because it is freestanding. There are also other exercises you can do with the Ultimate Body Press but the most important similarity is you can now take full advantage of another one of the most challenging and effect bodyweight resistance exercises in the convenience of your own home. That makes the Ultimate Body Press the Yin to the Irons Gym's Yang and for that simple fact it is worth every penny.

Iron Gym Pull-Up Bar

By John O'Riley

I've recently acquired a pull-up bar made by Iron Gym products. I have to say, I've had my eye on one of these for a while. Now I do have a full squat rack of where I'm able to do pull-ups from, but am I able to fit my squat rack in between my door way or in the hallway? Nope, I don't think so. With that said, the mobility of the pull-up bar is phenomenal.
Right when I get out of bed in the morning, all I have to do is simply slip the pull-bar in between my door way and walla! I can knock out a mini workout or warm-up whenever I want. Not to mention the benefits of doing pull-ups are simply outrageous. Pull-ups is an exercise very few people can do, simply because of the lack of upper body strength. I know a few people who can power clean over 250lbs but at the same time they have hard time doing 5 regular pull-ups.
With this piece of gym equipment, you can do a variety of exercises. Not only can you do under hand pull-ups, but you can also do over hand pull-ups as well. Wide or close-grip, you choose for the better. The pull-up bar can also be used as a push-up platform on the ground. With push-ups, it allows you to hit more muscle fibers of the chest and thus allowing you to get more of an effective workout that what regular push-ups offer. Anyways, for $30, you can't go wrong with the price. If you've always wanted to set up your own home gym, the pull-up bar is an awesome start. If you're wanting to buy this product, it can be located at your local sports store.
